Domaine de Chamarande

à partager en Essonne

Conseil Général de l'Essonne

Welcome to the Domaine départemental
de Chamarande !

From as early as 2001, the Conseil départemental the Essonne intended to make the Domaine de Chamarande, owned by the Département since 1978 but closed to the public, a leading cultural attraction in the Essonne, responsible for reconnecting with contemporary artistic creation using its natural environment.

One of a kind, the Domaine départemental de Chamarande is the largest public garden in the Essonne (98 hectars). In a heritage landscape space, awarded the remarkable garden label, today it combines an artistic and cultural centre, the archives of the département, the Auguste Mione housing scheme for school pupils as well as the storage space for the département’s contemporary art collection.

Free access to the site, its ease of access with a suburban train station 200 metres away, its varied landscapes, open 365 days per annum and its varied, high quality and accessible programming make it truly a space for cultural democratization.

It is a Domaine where « living together differently » is expressed in the artistic proposals but also in the cultural practices that come both from education and leisure, in a strong dialogue that is continually questioned between heritage and contemporary creation.
